When someone passes away, a doctor confirms the death and issues a death certificate. The family contacts a funeral service provider to transport the body to a designated location (home or mortuary).

火葬までの間、ご遺体を安置します（冷却処置が必要です）。同時に葬儀社と打ち合わせを行い、日程や形式を決定します。
The body is preserved in a refrigerated room until the cremation. Meanwhile, the family meets with the funeral director to discuss the schedule, type of ceremony, and other details.

式後に火葬場へ移動し、火葬を行います。その後、家族が遺骨を骨壺に納める「収骨」を行います。

本来は亡くなって7日目に行いますが、葬儀当日に繰り上げて行うことが多く、法要と会食をセットで行います。

葬儀後、香典返し（返礼品）を贈り、後日、四十九日法要の際に納骨を行うのが一般的です。
