1. Passing and Transportation of the Body
When someone passes away — at home, in a hospital, or a care facility — a funeral service provider will transport the deceased to a designated holding facility.
Even in direct cremations, immediate cremation is not allowed, so the body must be stored temporarily until the cremation can take place.
2. Body Preservation (Anchi)
The body is kept in a refrigerated facility or at home until the cremation day.
3. Placing the Body in the Casket (Optional)
If the family wishes, a casketing ritual may be held, where loved ones personal items in the coffin before it is closed.
This offers a brief, private moment to say goodbye.
4. Obtaining Cremation Permission
A cremation cannot proceed without a cremation permit from the local city office.
We handles this paperwork on behalf of the family(Optional).
5. Transportation to Crematorium and Cremation
On the scheduled day, the body is transported to the crematorium.
Family members may accompany the deceased and have a final moment of farewell before the cremation begins.
6. Bone Collection (Syuukotsu)
After cremation, the family participates in a ritual called Syuukotsu, where they use chopsticks to place the bones into an urn.
The remains are then brought home or taken directly to a final resting place.
🔸 Points to Consider
If the family has a temple or religious affiliation, it’s important to consult with the temple beforehand regarding things like posthumous names (kaimyō) or prayers.
Due to scheduling, the cremation may not take place immediately after death.
Some relatives or acquaintances may require explanation or reassurance, as direct cremation skips traditional ceremonies.
🔸 In Summary
Direct cremation offers a simple and cost-effective way to say goodbye, without the formality of a full-scale funeral.
However, it’s important to consider religious customs, family expectations, and the wishes of the deceased.
Choose the farewell style that best fits your values and situation.
